Claire and Daniel Barr, owners of Anglia Factors, based on Martlesham Heath, have announced their decision to embark upon a huge personal challenge in 2010, a gruelling 10-day walk along The Great Wall of China. Claire commented: “We have supported St Elizabeth Hospice for many years now, through smaller fundraising events such as our cookery demonstrations, and the Christmas Day Dip. We decided however that 2010 would be the year we did something not only personally challenging and rewarding but something that would also raise money for such a wonderful local charity.”

Claire and Daniel, along with other team members, will hike for 8 hours every day of the 10-day challenge across the route of the Great Wall, climbing its steep steps and setting up camp along route. “We will be training hard,” said Claire. “We will have to set up practice hikes around the local area and train at our local gym to get to full fitness. We have lots of emotions about the challenge, going out of our comfort zone, apprehension, but really excited about finally being able to achieve a lifelong ambition.”  Claire however, has a lot more apprehension than others about embarking on this trip, as she has admitted to her big fear of flying and heights! “This will be such a huge challenge for me personally, as yes, I hate flying, especially long flights! and heights are a problem for me too. I am absolutely determined to conquer these fears, through adversity I will succeed to help others.”

Rachael Mittell, of St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “Claire and Daniel have certainly set themselves an exciting challenge and I am sure they will find it very rewarding. We are so glad they have chosen to support the Hospice by doing this trek and whatever they raise will really make a difference.”

St Elizabeth Hospice aims to improve the quality of life for patients throughout East Suffolk who have been diagnosed with an illness from which they will not recover. It costs almost £6million a year – or £11 a minute – to run and relies heavily on public support and  fundraising to meet these costs.

Claire and Daniel have already had support from their suppliers, customers and family, and every penny raised will go directly to the Hospice.  If you would like to support Claire and Daniel you can contact them at Anglia Factors 01473 610192 or by logging onto the Just Giving Website: http://www.justgiving.com/DanielAndClairesChinaChallenge
